Alana Henley Curtis

Alana has been riding since she was two years old and began competing in Hunter/Jumpers at the age of six.  In 1991, at the age of 13, Alana bought a 5 year old Thoroughbred/Quarterhorse named Sunny and began eventing him at Novice. Alana and Sunny quickly rose through the levels, completing many Preliminary and CCI* competitions throughout California, Oregon and Arizona. At this time she was training extensively with many well known and highly respected trainers including Don Sachey, Yves Sauvignon, Tina Steward, Chris Scarlett, and Paula Lacey. In 1997 Alana and Sunny started competing at Intermediate level throughout the west coast.  In 1998 Alana and Sunny were chosen to represent Area VI at the North American Young Riders Championships at the 2 Star Level Three Day event in Colorado (NAYRC CCI** Junior Olympic recognized). Unfortunately Sunny was injured while traveling to Colorado and was unable to compete at the event.

After he was able to go back into full work the pair continued their training and were successfully schooling at the Advanced level.  While preparing for 3-Day event in Texas Sunny was injured and was pulled from the competition.  He was subsequently retired in 2000.

At that time Alana shifted her focus to starting young horses, addressing problem horses, and giving lessons.   In 2006 she formally started SunFire Equestrian Training at Fresh Start Stables in Davis, CA.  That same year she also acquired a challenging young Thoroughbred gelding, Derby, who inspired her to begin competing again.

While training at Fresh Start Stables Alana began acquiring off the track Thoroughbreds, rehabing them, training them for new careers, and placing them in new homes.  Her OTTB's have gone onto becoming successful 3-Day mounts, lesson horses, and police horses.

In the summer of 2011 Alana was given the opportunity to join a partnership to purchase a 40 acre training facility in Woodland, CA. Fuego Del Sol opened in September 2011 and Alana continued SunFire Equestrian Training out of this beautiful new facility. In 2018, Fuego Del Sol was renamed Kingsview Equestrian Center.
